Claire Richter

I’m an Illustrator and Printmaker, and I create works that are inspired by fantasy worlds, comics, and nature. I aim to create work that is warm, playful, and whimsical. I make risograph prints, which have intense color and a lovely texture, and I love to explore the space in between traditional and digital art, where I feel the risograph lies. I also have begun screenprinting, where I use transparencies made from digital art to burn the image to the screen.

I grew up in an unhealthy, unstable environment, where I often felt trapped and alone as a child, teen, and even as a young adult. Fantasy worlds in comics, video games, TV shows, and in art were all escapes from the isolated and stressful life around me. Now, as I find myself in healthier, safer environments, I find myself wanting to express and translate the joy, hope, and empowerment these fantasy worlds brought me, and the joy and love I find within my real world now. With my work, I want to present viewers with the things that I hope might make them smile or laugh, and I want viewers be inspired to find whimsy and joy in their own life.
