I have been working with clay for more than 40 years but always had other jobs. At long last, I have succumbed to clay’s magical properties and am working full-time as an artist.
Clay is such a versatile medium because it can range from highly functional to purely decorative. It is both sculptural and painterly. And what happens during the firing process can be magic or tragic. I love the complexity and mystery of this amazing medium and delight in the process of developing my work and continuing to learn.
In recent work, I have been exploring portraiture. I strive to create work that captures likeness but does not get bogged down or feel overworked. Obsessed with texture and pattern, I incorporate it into everyday objects and jewelry.
I feel like I am just at the beginning of understanding where this is all headed but I am so grateful to be on this journey.
Please visit me at Northrup King Building or at Bird & Flower Studio and thank you for your interest.
