An Ode to Nature, the Tapestry of Life
I’ve always been fascinated by the forces of nature which surround and sometimes circumscribe our journey through life and history. Nature communicates daily. We hear rustling breezes, howling winds, and see the changing of the seasons.
Standing on the shores of the Mississippi or the shores of Lake Superior, you may be struck by soothing glistening ripples, or you may feel the raw force of the waves. Once a year, we spend a week at the ocean, north of Fort Lauderdale. I gaze at the waves and contemplate them endlessly. The mysteries of nature awe and inspire.
We, like all living things, are interconnected, part of nature’s rich tapestry, her seasonal cycles and her interdependent plan. We are blossoms wending our way through the brambles of her garden as we journey through life. All who live in our nation inhabit that garden forming a rich mosaic of entwined blossoms; the ethnicities, the races, the people who built our country. My paintings are abstract metaphors for aspects of nature and for the life we carve within her reaches.
I feel the gestural stroke and the handwritten word are natural means of human expression.. In my work I celebrate nature’s lush garden, her waters, her secrets and her ever-changing seasons. My works express that rich tapestry in gestural, sometimes intertwining, strokes which, to me, represent the rhythms and forces of the natural world of which we are an integral part.

The Wave, the Sky, the Expressive Stroke #1-#4,
I often reference the ocean in my work as it embodies all aspects of nature. One day it is soothing, the next intimidating, always mysterious, and to me fascinating. Its health is central to the health of the planet and therefore, to ours as well. We must take care of it, Resolution

I’ve always been influenced by the ocean as it is embodies so many aspects of nature. It is referenced in many of my paintings. During the pandemic I became more introspective. Instead of ocean waves, these are the waves of my mind.
