Born and raised in the Twin Cities, growing up I was the quintessential tomboy, preferring the company of a tree or the discovery of an exceptional rock to the world of dolls. I have clear memory of lying on the ground, face buried in the grass, closely examining the pattern revealed in an individual blade to that of the entire lawn. Today, it is still important for me to remain closely connected to the earth and not at all unusual to find me with my nose inches from a tree scrutinizing its bark, or lying flat on my back, gazing at the sky through a pattern of interlaced branches. Whether digging in my garden, swimming in the St. Croix, camping or hiking along the North Shore, I remain comforted by the infinite variety and resonance of pattern found in the natural world.
This reverence for nature has always been apparent in my artwork is currently expressed in a variety of mediums. In addition to paintings in acrylics, I love to create lighted sculptures and wood collage from found natural objects, repurposed wood and mixed media.
