Bliss Art Studio, Shelli Burns
This year I have decided to stay virtual rather than in person visits for Art A Whirl 2021 due to the lingering effects and adjustments from the pandemic that we have all just been through. Also, I had a major kiln incident and many of the other items I made specifically for Art A Whirl were ruined. I will continue making and posting more in my NEMAA shop in the future. I look forward to opening my studio doors for Art A Whirl 2022. In the meantime, those of us in the California Building will slowly be re-opening as we feel comfortable individually. There will be open studio 2nd Saturdays coming this summer as well as some outdoor, on the lawn, selling events. Following is a little glimpse into my work and inspirations:
Inspired by my interactions with nature, I draw from variations in the colors, forms and textures of wood, rock, flowers, grasses and trees, as well as from the clarity and flow of water. The textures in my pieces are often carved or imprinted with something from my garden or found outside. For me, the colors of my pieces are as important as the forms. much of my work is painted with glazes that I have mixed myself. I use these combinations to “paint without painting”. Often I combine hand built or hand cut clay pieces with wood, bark or rock. Much of my art is functional but also decorative.
