Image: Sand cast ring was cast with a piece of lava in-place. I removed all of the lava stone to reveal the sterling that flowed into the natural holes and texture of the lava. I added patina to the area to bring out the texture. The ring has a matte finish
I was raised in an artistic culture, a family of artists. In high school, I was privileged to have studied under an accomplished silversmith. Dabbling in jewelry making over the years while raising my children, I worked in the salon industry. In 2015 my son died from suicide, I learned the art of glass fusing to encase his ashes. Soon custom pieces followed, drawing on my limited experience in high school I taught myself to fabricate and cast in sterling, copper and gold expanding my collection of jewelry. I sell my work at juried art fairs and accept orders for custom pieces.

A two step sand cast process was used to create this ring. The copper was created in a partial casting and was placed back into the mold. Molten sterling was then poured into the mold completing the ring. A tube bezel was soldered in place for the ruby
