2018 Art-A-Whirl Dates and Times

Friday, May 18th – 5:00-10:00 p.m.
Saturday, May 19th – Noon-8:00 p.m.
Sunday, May 20th – Noon-5:00 p.m.

Trolley schedule

There will be THREE FREE trolleys running during Art-A-Whirl hours, and will make stops at various Art-A-Whirl artist locations throughout the NE Minneapolis Arts District. Wait time can be about 15 minutes, no more than 25 minutes, but occasional delays can happen from time to time. A full circle takes approximately 45 minutes. Trolleys will drive in a clockwise direction on the Arts District Trolley route. Trolley stops are designated as light blue squares on the Art-A-Whirl map, and each stop will have signage posted (download the map and see all stops below).

Many NEMAA members coordinate their own exhibits, openings, art demonstrations, events, and performances during Art-A-Whirl.

Art-A-Whirl Locations

Art-A-Whirl occurs throughout all of Northeast Minneapolis. Over 50 locations host NEMAA Artists. Here are a couple ways to find Art-A-Whirl locations:

  • Download our NEMAA’s App to easily find artist locations, as well as nearby dining locations.
  • Pick up a free copy of NEMAA’s printed Artist Directory & Guide to view all participating artists, locations, and more. The Directory also includes an Art-A-Whirl map, dining locations, a calendar of events, and more. Pick up your free copy of the Artist Directory and Guide at the information booths during Art-A-Whirl, or starting mid-April at the California Building, Casket Arts Building, Keg House Arts Building, Northrup King Building, or Thorp Building in Northeast Minneapolis.
  • Download an Art-A-Whirl map to view Art-A-Whirl locations. Red location dots signify locations with at least one participating NEMAA artist. Starred location red dots signify 10+ participating artists.

Family Friendly Locations

NEMAA members offer family friendly art, artwork by children, demonstrations and/or interactive activities during Art-A-Whirl and throughout the year. “I Bought Art” Sticker

Vote for Art! During Art-A-Whirl, NEMAA artists will be handing out “I Bought Art” stickers to visitors who purchase original artwork. Please wear your sticker proudly to show your support of local artists and encourage others to do the same! In addition, several local businesses will offer discounts to anyone wearing this sticker during Art-A-Whirl weekend. Read more and view the discounts here.

Metro Transit Free Pass

Ride To Art-A-Whirl With Metro Transit for FREE! Metro Transit Bus passes will be available for download beginning in May. Use the pass to ride for free on:

  • Friday, May 18, from 4 pm – 11 pm
  • Saturday, May 19, from 11 am – 9 pm
  • Sunday, May 20, from 11 am – 6 pm

Dining Options

There are an abundance of dining and beverage options in Northeast Minneapolis. Please refer to the new Art-A-Whirl app for dining locations, the square blue “Dining Location” dots on the Art-A-Whirl map. These businesses are all supporters of Art-A-Whirl and NEMAA.


NEMAA coordinates three ATMs located inside studio buildings:

  3. Q.arma Building, 1224 Quincy St NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413

In addition, many of the local restaurants and businesses may have ATM’s within their premises.
